It is pure, strong, clean and most importantly; it is processed through the micro fine procedure that enriches its purity and endurance power.

KDA1 from Virat Special Steel is marked with extraordinary features of the fine steels. It is content wise better steel than H13 version of the hot work steel as well. Its eminent aspects are-

  • The silicon content in this micro fine steel is less than 4%, whereas this content is present in a 1% rate in the H13 products. The fewer presence of silicon brings about 150% toughness and greater strength in KDA1 than H13 products.
  • In addition to this, the fewer presence of silicon a little tough machinability of the products made out of it because of high toughness.
  • Molybdenum is present in this product in 6% of the rate, whereas in H13 it is present in 1.3% of the rate. This increased amount of Molybdenum increases the resistance power up to 200% than H13.
  • It content low rate of vanadium, which is 5%, eventually occurs fewer amounts crystallization of VC carbide. It enhances the toughness of steel. On the other hand, the presence of a greater amount of vanadium of 1% causes a greater amount of crystallization of VC carbide in H13 that decreases its toughness.
  • It has a greater amount of default hardness than that of H13. This increased hardness enhances the preciseness of dimension during the aluminum extrusions.
  • This greater hardness also prevents the cracks in the products, made out of it.

slide-1

Superior toughness!

KDA1 showcases superior attributes of strength, toughness and thermal stability and this is because of its specific composition and the process of its manufacturing. The composition is strikingly defined by its purity which means least of undesired substances in it. This is ensured by eliminating the components that reduce the hot hardness and temperature resistance, like when the die casting is done through KDA1 mould. Si or Silicon is one such impurity, the presence of which directly impacts the toughness. KDA1 contains Silicon less than or equal to 0.4% which is lower than H13 that can have up to 1.3% of it. The toughness is thus increased to 150% in KDA1 as compared to H13. Also, the concentration of Vanadium in KDA1 is less which enhances the toughness of it. H13 contains up to 1% of Vanadium while KDA1 has only the maximum of 0.5% of Vanadium.

Definite annealing and heat treatment is also carried to optimize the toughness of KDA1. Tempering is done in the range of 500 – 550 degree centigrade followed by air cooling phases. This causes uniform micro-arraying of the constituents that have negligible impurities. VIRAT SPECIAL STEELS ( INDIA ) adheres to all the standards of KDA1 production and offers the best products.

Why KDA1 is better for hot casting?

Apart from the structural toughness and strength of KDA1, its thermal fatigue resistance capacity also deserves mention and this makes it a perfect choice for hot work dies and moulds. Higher Molybdenum (Mo) content of 1.6% in KDA1 increases it softening resistance to 200% to that of H13. This makes it suitable for high temperature casting applications including of Aluminum metal among others. The thermal expansion factor for KDA1 is less and the thermal conductivity is high as compared to H13. This means that the extent of potential deformation during the hot molding process will be reduced through lesser thermal expansion and greater heat dissipation. These characteristics make KDA1 the better option for making hot casting dies.

H13 Steel (DIN 2344) – the perfect tool steel for hot work and cold work applications

The demand for steel shows no downtrends because this alloy of iron has showcased attributes that are very demanded in the manufacturing industry. Steel has found acceptance and demand in whole range of enterprises and it is truly said that now ‘there is little bit of steel in the life of everyone’. This alloy has crept deep in the life of people and the economy. Such resonances have led to the increased brewing of steels and the objective is to develop the perfectly matching grades and types that are suitable for specific applications. This could be called as tier 3 differentiation in the segment of steels; the second tier was that of SS in the yester century. H13 (SKD61) is a specific grade of tool steel that is in high demand in various industries because of the hot and cold work capability of it. H13 Tool Steel is being actively used in drop type forgings and low pressure die casting apart from the extrusions and injection molds among others.

Very high toughness and wear resistance in H13 (SKD 61)

H13 derives its characteristics like extreme toughness and tensile strength through its alloying composition that essentially has molybdenum and chromium. Extreme hot working capacity is developed and makes H13 very versatile against the heat induced stresses that result in the metal fatigues. Cracking and denaturing of the surface is least in H13 Die Steel and this makes it a preferred choice for the hot work molding applications. On the other hand, the H13 tool steel is also used actively for the cold work tasks and its high level of hardness is the reason for its acceptance. The machinability of H13 steel is super & therefore it can be used in high impact industrial applications without the wear and tear at high frequencies.

DB6 steel – The Best Choice for Metal Forging Based Manufacturing

Steel has transformed the social economic landscape and our affinities with this alloy of iron have become more pronounced with the passage of time. These affinities could be attributed to the salient attributes that steel adores and which make it a preferred choice in multitudes of applications. We can’t even imagine some core activities without steel. No wonder, we have been passionate to gear metallurgical sciences to develop more resonant grades and standards in steel and SS. DB6 (SKT4) steel is a hot work steel that allows making best forging dies. Metals based manufacturing today forms the basis of many secondary and ancillary enterprises and they rely on steel dies. DB6 is the considered the best choice for making the toughened dies in different sizes and dimensions.

Why DB6 apt for making forging dies and molds?

DB6 steel as a choice for making forging molds and dies is due to various characteristics that it has relative to other metals. It is a hot work steel and therefore allows making the molds that are resilient enough against the hot metals that are put in them. The high level annealing and tempering of DB6 (L6) steel causes extreme toughening and hence generates desirable hot working capacity for the forging tasks. The presence of chromium, nickel, molybdenum and vanadium in DB6 alloy generate the extra toughness and very high wear resistance thus making it perfect contender for closed die forgings of entire diversity. The manufacturers of DB6 hardened steel dies ensure that the desirable hardness is delivered to the die. Generally, it is in the range of 370 to 410 HB for round type and 355 to 400 HB for flat/square type.

Custom making of DB6 dies necessary!

Customization in the manufacture of DB6 steel forging dies is equally important function that determines the efficiency and finesse. Unless the custom development of forging die is done, the attributes of DB6 could be of no use for the secondary manufacturer that seeks to achieve dimensional functionality and finesse also in its forged products. These forged products could be of diversity ranging from the machine components and tools to toys models and other products.  Virat Special Steels offers to make custom forging dies in high quality DB6 (DIN 2714) steel and has been serving the diverse sectors of metals based forging.
